Veteran educational leader begins her term as President on July 1, 2026, continuing BBA’s mission to advance mathematics education for Black children.

July 1, 2026 — The Benjamin Banneker Association (BBA) proudly announces that Monique Harrison, Ed.S. officially began her term as President on July 1, 2026. Appointed after running unopposed, Harrison now leads one of the nation’s premier organizations dedicated to improving mathematics education for Black children.

With more than 34 years of experience in education, Harrison has dedicated her career to educational leadership, curriculum development, educator support, family engagement, and student success. Her appointment marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Association as it continues its mission of promoting equitable mathematics education and supporting educators, students, and communities nationwide.

“It is an incredible honor to serve as President of the Benjamin Banneker Association,” said Harrison. “I look forward to working alongside our members, partners, and communities as we continue building on BBA’s legacy of advocating for excellence in mathematics education while expanding opportunities for Black children to thrive.”

As President, Harrison will provide strategic leadership for the Association, helping guide initiatives that strengthen member engagement, cultivate partnerships, expand professional learning opportunities, and further BBA’s mission of ensuring equitable access to high-quality mathematics education.

In addition to her role as President, Harrison is the founder of Harrison Educational Consulting Group, LLC, where she provides leadership coaching, educational consulting, professional development, and strategic guidance for educators, schools, families, and organizations. She is also the author of A Mother’s Struggle in the Public School System, a work that emphasizes the importance of educational advocacy, family engagement, and effective leadership.

Founded in 1986, the Benjamin Banneker Association is an equity affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). For nearly four decades, the organization has

remained committed to empowering Black children by promoting excellence, advocacy, research, and innovation in mathematics education.

As BBA celebrates its 40th Anniversary, Harrison’s presidency represents a continued commitment to collaboration, innovation, and advancing opportunities that positively impact educators, students, and communities across the nation.
